This article is about the character, Wes Gibbins. For the Season 3 episode with the same name, see "Wes". |
- "I just wanted to do something."
Wesley "Wes" Gibbins, born as Christophe Edmond, was one of the main characters of How to Get Away with Murder. With his boy-next-door charm, Wes arrived at Middleton Law School as an outcast but under the wing of Annalise Keating, Wes was able to get a place at Middleton University and quickly learned the dark truths of the criminal justice system while stumbling upon some of Annalise's most personal secrets. Not long before his death, he got together with Laurel Castillo and by the time that he died, Laurel was pregnant with his child. Wes was killed by Dominick Flores on orders of Jorge Castillo to prevent him from coming forward to the police about killing Sam and the shooting of Annalise, which would have tanked Antares stock value after they filed for an IPO, as Laurel would have been implicated.
History[]
Early Life[]
Christophe and his mother immigrated from Haiti to the United States during his early childhood, specifically when he was 1. His mother started working for the Mahoney family as a maid. Christophe was the only black child in his neighborhood when he was growing up in Ohio. ("He Deserved to Die", "Something Bad Happened")
Mahoney Case[]
Christophe finding his mother after her suicide. ("Something Bad Happened") |
Around 2005 and after the death of Charles Mahoney's fiancée, Charles is held as the lead suspect. Christophe's mother is approached by Wallace Mahoney to come forward as a witness for the trial and claim that she saw Charles while she was cleaning when Vickie was murdered. Rose at first refuses but as soon as Wallace threatens the life of Christophe, Rose agrees to lie for them. The Mahoneys then hire Annalise Keating to serve as Charles's lawyer. Rose is approaached by Annalise and questioned on what she knows and what she should say at court. The following days, Rose doesn't turn up at court and instead takes the opportunity to flee with her son. In the car, Christophe doesn't understand why they have to leave and subsequently runs away when they stop at a red light. Rose returns to her house to wait for her son. When Christophe returns, he finds his mother bleeding out all over the kitchen floor from a knife which was stuck in her neck. He removes it and calls the police. Christophe was unaware that Annalise had witnessed the entire ordeal and that his mother had really killed herself. Once the police arrive, his mother is officially declared dead and he is questioned by the police after they suspect that he had something to do with her death. They then release Christophe because of the lack of evidence that Christophe had anything to do with it. Christophe was then put into foster care and his foster parents then change his name from Christophe Edmond to Wesley Gibbins.("She Hates Us", "It's a Trap", "Something Bad Happened", "There's My Baby")
Season 1[]
Wes came to class unprepared. ("Pilot") |
Wes first meets Michaela Pratt in the lecture hall of the Criminal Law 100 class, attempting to strike up a conversation, but turned away as she coldly tells him that she is engaged. He starts his first day of Law School unprepared, having not received an email about the lesson. Annalise Keating, the professor, takes her students to her current client to hear her story, tasking them to come up with a better defense than she already has. That night, Wes tries to think of ideas, but is interrupted by the blaring music from next door. He meets his neighbor, Rebecca, and asks for her to turn down the music. She refuses and slams the door in his face. Wes returns to his apartment and notices the scratch marks in the walls from the last law student who lived in that apartment. As the class presents their ideas, Wes goes through his list, scratching them off one by one as they're all taken. He presents last, but manages to make it to the next round. After witnessing Michaela show off her skills and finding a vital piece of evidence that helps Annalise's case, Wes decides to step up his game, soon coming up with an idea. He hurries over to Annalise's office, but finds her getting ready to have sex with Nate Lahey. The professor and Wes step out of the room, the latter presents his idea, but Annalise doesn't think it's good enough. Wes is later seen returning to his apartment. He witnesses Rebecca arguing with a man by the name of Griffin O'Reilly. After he leaves, Wes tries to comfort Rebecca, but she slams the door in his face. Wes later speaks with a man named Sam, and discovers him to be Annalise's husband, ultimately learning that the professor is having an affair. He promises to keep it to himself, however. That night, Rebecca drops off a bottle of whiskey as an apology for the way she's treated him. Wes continues to attend court, watching the case being won with the help of Nate. Back in the lecture room, Annalise announces the winners of the competition; Connor, Asher, Michaela, Laurel and Wes, ensuring them all positions in her firm. ("Pilot")

Sam's Murder[]
Stopping Sam from hurting Rebecca. ("Kill Me, Kill Me, Kill Me") |
Connor, Laurel and Wes are driving to Annalise's place. They have to drive slow as there is a massive gang of drunk people going to the bonfire. Wes tries to call Rebecca but she's not picking up. Connor comes up with scenarios of what could have happened to her. Wes is confident that Rebecca went to the Annalise's. Wes tells Connor that Sam killed Lila so that's why Rebecca is going over there as she is trying to prove it. Connor thinks that its a joke. Wes tells him to believe him and drive faster. Laurel is confused as why would Annalise represent Rebecca if she knew Sam was involved. Wes says that he would go to the police if she did. Connor laughs and says that he blackmailed Annalise. Laurel tells Connor to shut up and ask Wes if he thinks Sam killed Lila. Wes agrees. Connor's car arrives and everyone gets out and runs to the house. Inside, Michaela is trying to calm Sam down but he is not backing down. Rebecca is in the bedroom with Sam's laptop. Sam tells Rebecca that if she doesn't come out, he's coming in. Wes, Connor and Laurel arrive in the room and tell him to stop. Sam tells them all to get out of his house. Wes tells him that once he has let Rebecca go, they will leave. Sam informs then that she took his laptop and asks them what she is trying to get. Wes tells him to calm down again and he backs away from the door. Wes walks up to it and tells Rebecca that she can come out. She opens the door. Wes tells Sam that they will leave now. Sam tells them to go as he is not going to do anything. Wes and Rebecca walk to the door when they are tackled to the floor. Sam tries to reach for the memory stick and grabs it. Wes has him pinned down and gets Laurel to get the stick off of Sam. Sam breaks free and they all run out of the bedroom door. He comes at Michaela so she pushes him over the landing. He falls onto the ground floor. Everyone stares at the body. ("Kill Me, Kill Me, Kill Me")
Sam's lifeless body. ("Kill Me, Kill Me, Kill Me") |
Michaela tells them that they need to call an ambulance. Connor doesn't see the point as Sam's dead. Connor says that he was alive until Michaela shoved him over the railings. Michaela says that she was protecting Laurel. Laurel says that because they were all there, they are all at fault. Connor disagrees. Laurel says that they broke into his house and that Sam was defending himself. Michaela quietly says that she was only there to turn in the Trophy. Michaela thinks they should be calling an ambulance. Connor corrects her again and says that they need to call the police. Wes speaks up and tells them all that no one knows that they are there. Laurel reminds them that Annalise could be back any minute. Wes tells them that that's why they should leave. Everyone stops talking as Sam is strangling Rebecca. Michaela freaks out and tells everyone to do something and to get him off of her. Wes grabs the trophy and hits Sam round the head with it. Blood splatters everywhere. Sam falls to the ground, dead. Rebecca's face is covered in blood. Everyone stares at her. Wes drops the trophy. Everyone in their own way freaks out. Wes removes his jacket and tells everyone to get ready to leave. Wes picks up Rebecca and carries her up stares where he washes off the blood. ("Kill Me, Kill Me, Kill Me") In the bathroom, Rebecca removes her shirt and Wes uses a towel to clean the blood off of her. Once he has got most of it off, he says that its enough until they get her out of there and washes the blood down the sink. Rebecca puts her shirt back on when Connor shouts for them to hurry up. Rebecca stares at Wes and says "thank-you" and Wes kisses her and tells her that everything's going to be alight. ("He Deserved to Die")
The group hears a knock. ("Let's Get to Scooping") |
Back downstairs, Laurel walks over to Sam's body on the floor. Rebecca is sitting in a chair when Wes wraps a blanket around her. Connor enters and demands that Michaela stand up and not cower in a corner moping. She just sits there. Connor gets a bit more violent but Laurel shouts for him to stop. Laurel crouches down beside her and tells her softly that they need to leave. Michaela is still not listening so Laurel says that everything is going to be ok. ("Smile, or Go to Jail") Connor walks over to Wes and Rebecca and says that Michaela is going to ruin it for them. Wes tells him that she will be fine. Connor quickly tells Michaela to get up again when Wes reveals that he has a plan. ("Kill Me, Kill Me, Kill Me") Laurel and Connor are to take Michaela to the woods while Wes will get Rebecca out of there. Connor is worried as Wes wants them to split up. Wes reminds Connor that Rebecca shouldn't be at the house. Just them, Asher knocks on the front door and shouts to see if anyone is inside. Everyone inside freezes but Connor goes to investigate. Asher shouts that he can see Connor's car in the driveway and carries on banging on the door. Michaela whispers that its all her fault. Connor agrees with her. Asher continues to shout through the door and demands that Michaela give him back the Trophy that she stole. Laurel sees Asher moving round to the windows and tells everyone to get down and hide. Connor lays down beside the body and tells the corpse that he is so so screwed. ("Let's Get to Scooping") Laurel contemplates letting him in as then he will become a part of it. Rebecca suggests that they trick him into stepping in the blood. Laurel agrees but Wes doesn't as he wasn't a part of it. Laurel listens closely as she doesn't hear Asher anymore and goes to check. He's gone. Michaela appears and reveals that she texted him claiming to be at the library. ("Freakin' Whack-a-Mole")
Annalise reveals herself to Wes. ("Kill Me, Kill Me, Kill Me") |
Wes takes Rebecca to a motel. Wes tells her that he will be back as he has to take care of the body and to not do anything until he's back. Rebecca just sits on the bed staring at the floor. Wes continues telling her that even if someone knocks, not to answer it unless she knows its him. Rebecca tells him that Sam wanted to kill her and that she had no other choice. Wes tells her to stop it. Rebecca stands up and says that her trial is in a couple of days and she is most likely to go down for it so she is offering to take the blame. She tells Wes that she will kill herself if Wes gets convicted for Sam's murder. Rebecca puts her hands around Wes' neck and tells him to let her help for once. Wes tells her that the only way for her to help is that she should stay in the room and not leave. Wes leaves. ("He Deserved to Die") After he leaves, Wes remembers what he did to save Rebecca and when he dropped the Trophy that he used to kill Sam. A horn snaps Wes out of his vision and the man tells him to get out of the middle of the road. Wes stares at him for a moment, then decides to go back for the trophy. Once in the house, he walks over to Sam's body and picks up the trophy. He then stares at Sam's body and says that he is sorry. Just then, Annalise reveals herself and tells him that Sam had it coming. ("Kill Me, Kill Me, Kill Me") She then tells him what to do with the body and Wes takes the trophy and heads for the woods. ("Hello, Raskolnikov")
Wes and the others fight over the body. ("Pilot") |
Wes finds the others just outside of the bonfire and scares them when he approaches. He opens his backpack and reveals a bloody trophy that he went back for. Michaela tells him to go and put it back but Laurel says that it was a good idea taking the murder weapon. She says that they should clean it and put it back after they bury the body. Michaela and Connor disagree because they will have to drag the body through town in the busiest night of the year. In addition, if they get the body out of the house unseen, the ground in the woods is frozen. Laurel says that they will have to dig all night if they have to. They all start at each other but Wes tells them all to stop and suggests that they decide by flipping a coin to see whether to get the body or leave it where it is. ("Pilot") Wes tosses the coin and it lands on heads which means they go back for the body. Wes grabs his things off of the ground and tells them all to go. ("It's All Her Fault") Michaela stops and says that it makes no sense at all. She seems confused with the plan. She doesn't know what they are going to do with the body once they have it. Wes says that they will burn it. Wes says that the flames will get rid of their DNA and Connor says that the bonfire will cover the smoke. Laurel has an idea. They can go to the bonfire and use it for their alibi. At the bonfire, drunk students and teenagers are throwing wood onto fire. Music is playing really loudly. Wes and Laurel take many selfies of them doing things that they would be doing if they were drunk so that if anyone asks, that have proof that they were there. Connor does the same. Michaela just stands there when Connor grabs her and tries to make her look like she's having fun. Michaela isn't smiling so Connor tells her to smile, or go to jail. Michaela smiles for a few selfies. ("Smile, or Go to Jail")
Wes and Connor wrap up the body. ("Pilot") |
After the bonfire, they return to the crime scene. Connor asks what the plan is and offers a few suggestions. Wes tells him that they will roll him in a rug and deal with that later. Michaela phone buzzes on silent and she sneaks off into another room to answer it. As Laurel comes back with paper towels to mop up the blood, she notices her leaving. Laurel quickly puts the paper towels down and grabs the Trophy that Wes hands her and goes to the kitchen to clean it. Wes and Connor are rolling the body in the rug on the floor. Michaela refuses to look or do anything. Laurel comes in and reveals that she washed all of the blood off of the trophy and the sink. Laurel asks what they should do next. Wes says that they should put the trophy back and Connor says that they should get the hell out of there. Wes, Connor and Laurel try and lift the body but can't as its to heavy. They all look to Michaela for help. She reluctantly walks over and grabs one end of the body. They all struggle to move the body outside. A cop appears. The cop asks them if a car blocking the side-walk is theirs. Connor owns up and says that its his and offers to move it. The cop asks if the house their in is the law professor. After a pause, Michaela saves them by saying its Annalise Keating's place and that they are moving her old rug out of the house. Michaela gets out her phone and offers to call Annalise to confirm. Michaela improvises by saying that Annalise went to her mother's funeral. The cop backs down and hears a bottle smashing. He quickly apologises and leaves to chase after a few rogue teenagers. ("Pilot")
They run into Asher. ("Freakin' Whack-a-Mole") |
After putting the body in the car, they drive out of Annalise's driveway and onto the road. Laurel suggests that they go to a gas station. Wes says that the gas station Laurel suggested was to close as they could bump into people they know and should go further away. Laurel suddenly notices Asher crossing the road directly in front of the car. Connor stops the car before he ploughed him over. Connor tells them that "this is freakin' whack-a-mole" and drives off. ("Freakin' Whack-a-Mole") They drive out of town to the gas station Wes suggested. Connor tells them that they are all screwed and that Asher knew that they were in the house. On top, they also have the cop that was a witness. Connor gets paranoid with all of the things that they have done wrong. Laurel tells Connor that he has said enough. Connor "agrees" and puts on the radio. Christmas songs begin playing. Connor says "perfect" and changes the words of the song to fit their situation.("Let's Get to Scooping") the gang arrives at a store, Wes goes inside. He picks up two bottles of lighter fluid and two bags of potato chips. When he gets to the counter, he picks up a prepaid phone and adds it to his basket. Back at the motel, the phone rings and Rebecca is hesitant to answer it. She picks up the phone and finds Wes on the other end. Wes says he has a new phone. Rebecca tells him that he shouldn't be calling. Wes looks outside to check if Connor's car was still there. On the phone, Wes says that is taking care of it and that he got the others to come around to the idea of getting the body. He tells her that they are going to protect her. ("It's All Her Fault")("He Deserved to Die") In the car, Christmas songs are still playing and Connor is still singing along. Michaela begs him to stop. Wes gets into the car after going to the store. He tosses Laurel a some potato chips. He said that he bought other stuff so that he wouldn't look suspicious on the surveillance video. Connor continues to sing along to the jolly Christmas song. ("Pilot")
Wes and the others burning Sam's body. ("Let's Get to Scooping") |
Once in the woods, they hear a couple laughing while carrying the body. They quickly take cover behind a tree and turn off their flash-lights. The couple begins to get naked when Laurel's phone goes off. The couple stops and shouts "who's there." Laurel quickly gets her phone out of her pocket and ignores the phone call from Frank. The couple shouts again and flees when there is no reply. Michaela asks Laurel why Frank is calling her and that she saw the picture of him without a top on on her phone. ("Pilot") Wes jumps to conclusions and asks Laurel if she told Frank about what they are doing. Michaela gets jealous because they never allowed her to call her fiancée. Laurel admits to them that she slept with Frank but she hasn't told Frank anything. Michaela asks her why they should believe her. Laurel says that she doesn't have to as they aren't friends. ("We're Not Friends") When they reach the a spot far away from the bonfire where they cant be heard or seen, they unravel the body from the rug and cover in twigs and lighter fluid. Wes asks if they all agree as there is no going back. They all agree and Wes lights a match which shines a light on the Sam's face. Wes throws the match on the body and it sets on fire. ("Pilot") While burning the body, Laurel gets another call from Frank. Connor makes a snide comment. Wes suggests that she answer it. Michaela agrees as it strengthens their alibi as you can hear bonfire in the background. ("We're Not Friends") After burning the body, Connor repeatedly hits the burnt corpse, breaking it apart. Connor stops and asks Michaela for help. Michaela tells him that she is just having a break. Connor won't take no for an answer. Wes and Laurel sit down. Connor tells Michaela that they need to see it through and to grab a trash bag and get to scooping up the bits of the body. He then resumes hitting the body and laughs at the same time. ("Let's Get to Scooping")
Getting rid of Sam's body. ("Kill Me, Kill Me, Kill Me") |
Wes and Michaela carry black bags full of Sam to Connor's car. Laurel is sat in the car while Connor is sat on a rock. Wes infroms the group that they have put in the last bag in the car. Connor tells everyone to get in the car when Michaela realises that she has lost her engagement ring. She tells everyone to wait and that its gone. Everyone stops and turns aroung to look at Michaela. Michaela falls to the ground and looks for it. Michaela repeats "I lost my ring." ("Smile, or Go to Jail") They all return to the woods to search for the missing engagement ring but have no luck finding it. Laurel informs Michaela that its going to be light soon and that they still need to dispose of the body. Michaela refuses to leave until they find it. Wes questions her to see if she had her ring on when they left the house and Michaela says that she did. Connor says that they will have to cancel the wedding. Michaela cries more and Wes tells Connor to stop as they all still need Michaela to return the Trophy back to Asher. Laurel says that Michaela won't be able to do it in her current state. Connor isn’t happy about this as he has done his part, and its time for Michaela to do hers. Laurel speaks up and says that she will do it. Connor questions how and Laurel says that she will figure it out. ("We're Not Friends") They all drive to a dumpster. Connor starts throwing the trash bags into the dumpster. Laurel also helps. Michaela tries to stop Connor as her ring might be in one of them. Wes tells them all that throwing the body in the dumpster is a bad idea and that they need to get to an incinerator. Connor stops and says that Wes has been outvoted. Michaela grabs one and starts opening it. She puts her hand in and gets body on her fingers. She stands up and says "oh, god." Connor walks over and tells her to grow up. He grabs the last bag and throws it in. Laurel makes sure that there isn't any more. Wes stands there for a moment as he thinks they have messed up. Everyone's ready to leave but Wes still isn't in the car. Connor tells him that the train is leaving and asks him if he's coming. Wes reluctantly gets into the car and they drive off. ("Kill Me, Kill Me, Kill Me")

Rebecca asks what took him so long. Wes says that its done. Rebecca is happy and they both hug. She tells him that he should never leave her like that again. Wes says that he wont and that he is there now. They both kiss and Wess comforts her by saying that she is safe. ("It's All Her Fault") The next morning, Wes wakes up in the motel room and finds that Rebecca isn't there. He calls her name when she walks through the door with coffee and bagels. He asks her where she was and she tells him that its a bit obvious. He asks her where the flash drive is and she hands it to him. He puts it on the desk and breaks it with the bottom of the lamp. Rebecca asks him why he did that. Wes tells her that the thumb drive put them at the scene of the crime the previous night. Rebecca asks Wes if what they did was all for nothing. Season 3[]
Following his apparent father's death in front of him, Wes notices that Frank Delfino is gone, noting that he probably had something to do with Wallace's death. Wes is then questioned by the police to which he lies to them and tells them that he was asking Wallace for directions. Annalise Keating picks him up and the two drive to a wood where they scream at the world to get some of their anger out. Between this and him starting his second year at Middleton University, he meets Meggy Travers and the two become a couple. ("We're Good People Now")
At the start of the second year in September, Wes rides his bike to his first class where he bumps into Laurel Castillo who had messaged him a week prior asking to meet up. He didn't reply. In class, the Keating 5 see each other for the first time since they broke up at the end of their first year. They then take their seats for the start of Annalise Keating's new legal clinic. After she walks in, the students point out a poster behind her with Killer written over her picture. She dismisses it and introduces their first client, Karim Assaf a refugee facing deportation. That night, the Keating 5 catch up at Oliver's Apartment. The following day, Wes uses his strategy of using character witnesses to win him first chair in the case. It is also revealed that Karim only pleaded guilty to the possession charge because the drugs belonged to his daughter. In court, Wes presents the judge with members of Karim's community who all say good things about him. Michaela later arrives and she and Annalise go to the District Attorney's Office where they manage to get the prosecutor to reduce Karim's charges to a misdemeanor. Wes stalls the court until she can return. Despite this, the judge doesn't remove Karim's deportation status. Later that night, Laurel comes to Wes' Apartment where he answers the door with his shirt off thinking its Meggy. She later arrives and is introduced to Laurel. ("We're Good People Now")
Before class, Wes notices Annalise and she asks him to move in with her. He turns her down and reminds her that he has a girlfriend. She tells him that its because she is lonely. Later, at the clinic, the Keating 5 meet before class and Connor tells the other that he and Oliver have broken up. Everyone instantly assumes that Connor cheated on him but he denies it. Annalise then arrives and introduces their client, Irene Crowley who was convicted for murdering her husband. She is up for parole. After talking with Irene personally, Irene chooses to go with Connor as first chair. At his apartment, Meggy finds multiple articles on the flyers of Annalise calling her a killer. To change the subject, Wes feeds her ice cream before kissing her. Wes and the other students are given their assignments and Wes and Laurel are tasked with talking with Irene's sister-in-law, Amber Crowley. They stop her on the street and ask her to talk to Irene so that they can resolve their issues. She refuses as she cannot get over Irene killing her brother. Later, Wes catches Laurel looking at articles on Wallace Mahoney's murder, looking to see whether Wes was a suspect. Wes tells her that he is trying to move on. Laurel questions Meggy and tells him that she did a background check on her. Wes admits that he did the same. Connor and Annalise later manage to get Irene out on parole. Wes later visits Annalise at her house; he brings pizza. The two talk about trust and Wes admits that he trusts Laurel completely. ("There Are Worse Things Than Murder")
At the clinic, Annalise introduces their next client, Toby Solomon who is accused of manslaughter after failing to call an ambulance which later resulted in the girl's death. After getting blindsided in court by the ADA, Annalise pulls Wes aside and tells him that Laurel isn't really at her grandmother's funeral but has gone to see her father in Florida. Following their conversation, Wes looks on Antares Technologies's (Laurel's father's company) website back at the clinic. While in his apartment, Meggy measures Wes' heart rate after sex and mentions that she didn't know that his birthday was coming up. Wes tells her that he didn't tell her because he doesn't like his birthday. The two kiss when Laurel calls. Meggy leaves the room and Wes lets Laurel know that Annalise told him where she was. Wes tries to get Laurel to talk to him about what she's doing there but she tells him that she doesn't want to talk over the phone. Later, Meggy is asleep next to him and he messages Laurel asking if she is awake. She ignores him. The following day, Wes calls Laurel and leaves her a voicemail. Back inside his apartment, Meggy questions their relationship as she notes that he is taking more liking to Laurel than her. He tells her that she has nothing to worry about. ("Always Bet Black")
Before court with their next client, Wes notices Laurel in her car and knocks on the window to see whether she is okay. In the court, Asher is first chair and is profusely sweating. The ADA on the case informs the court that Annalise as had her license to practice law suspended. In the clinic after Asher gives everyone their assignments, Wes notices Laurel leaving and asks her where she is going. She makes up an excuse that she's going to the library to find past cases that could help their own. Later, Wes notices Laurel leave again once she returns. He questions her about it when she comes back in the room to which Laurel tells him that she went to the bathroom. Connor is talking about his past experiences with sex. Before court again, Wes catches Laurel when she finished her phone call and asked her what was up. She gets defensive but Wes tells her that he's there for her if she needs him. This results in Laurel telling him about the surprise party Meggy Travers is planning for him that night. Later, Wes goes to Meggy's apartment and acts surprised when he enters and everyone shouts happy birthday. After Michaela and Asher goes off to dance, Meggy brings up the courage to ask Wes to dance. He agrees. ("Don't Tell Annalise")
At the clinic, Wes tells the others that he is having dinner with Meggy's father that night. Simon offers his copy of the outline for the test in exchange for theirs. Connor eagerly accepts but finds that its a prank. Later, Simon reads out an email he received from the university stating that Annalise has resigned and that they have a new professor. Later, Michaela secretly steals Simons laptop for his outline but plays dumb when he comes over to accuse them of stealing it. At dinner with Meggy's father, he probes him with questions on his past. Meggy tells her father that his mother died of cancer. Later that night, Wes goes over to the Keating House where he finds Annalise drunk as a skunk. She ends up throwing up in her toilet. She tells Wes to leave her as she doesn't want him to see her in this state. Wes tells her that he's not going anywhere and cleans her up and helps her to bed. The following morning, Michaela finds out who is responsible for the flyers and informs the others that it was Simon and they all tell Annalise at her house. At the clinic, Simon comes over and apologies and gives the others his outline. Wes then messages Laurel to meet him in the stairwell. Wes tells her that he needs to break up with Meggy as he is sick of lying to her. Laurel comes clean that Frank isn't really gone. Wes then forces Laurel to tell Annalise about Frank being in Coalport. Bonnie appears also. ("It's About Frank")
Bonnie apologizes for lying to her but tries to make up for it by handing a recording of Frank confessing to Mahoney's murder. Wes ignores a call from Meggy. Meggy then calls Laurel and tells her that the NYPD are at Wes' Apartment. Although Wes is up for talking with the cops, Annalise forces Wes to stay at her house. The next morning, Wes misses his exam and Wes calls Meggy to get things straightened out. Later, Annalise gets her license back and calls Bonnie and Wes. Bonnie blames all of her's and Annalise's problems on him, saying it all started with his crush on Rebecca. Later, Annalise returns from work and tells the others who don't already know that Wallace is Wes' father. That night, Connor returns and threatens Wes that if be even mentions his name to the cops then he will kill him. Annalise later arrives back at her house and Was instantly asks about Frank. Annalise accidentally tells him that he was responsible for the death of her son. The following morning, Meggy comes over to talk with Wes. Wes tells her that the stuff with the police is too much for her. Meggy likes him too much and tells him that she loves him. Wes tells her that he can't deal with her anymore and tells her to leave. That night, Wes steals the recording and takes it to Laurel's place where he breaks it. He tells her that he and Meggy broke up and the two have sex. In the night, Wes wakes up and watches the news as it is announced that Charles Mahoney, Wallace's son has been arrested for murdering his father. ("Is Someone Really Dead?")
Wes and his attorney, Vince Levin go to the police where he explains he didn't realize that the police were looking for him. He also lies and says that he saw Charles on the night Mahoney was shot. At the university, Wes tells Annalise that he lied. At court, the clinic students are shown a video of Edith Duvall who has been poisoned and accuses her children. The three children are the defendants, Nelson, Karen, and Jared. Sets of students prep the three siblings for their upcoming deposition. Wes and Laurel interview Karen. After Annalise tells them to find a new suspect and in return, Annalise will give the student an 'A' in her midterm. At the clinic, everyone is searching for potential suspects and Laurel and Wes sneak off to have sex. The following day at the courthouse, Wes bumps into Nate who tells him to watch himself with Annalise. That night, Laurel and Wes are in bed together. Wes gets a call from Connor telling him that Charles has an alibi. Over at the Keating House, Wes catches Annalise in another lie. The others then take it in turns to tell Annalise how they really feel about her. Wes has nothing to say that she doesn't already know. The following day, after winning in court, Wes is waiting for Annalise on her porch. He apologizes for lying to the police. Wes worries that it isn't over. Back home, Laurel and Wes say goodnight to one another over the phone and Laurel instinctively tells him that she loves him. ("Call It Mother's Intuition")

The day before he died, Wes was receiving a call from Laurel's mom, Sandrine Castillo, asking for him to go and meet her. She knew his real name, Christoph, and he secretly recorded their conversation once he got to the diner. She referenced his legal troubles and offered to pay him to stop seeing Laurel. She gave him a check for $100,000 and told him to contact her through Dominic. When Wes tried to resist, her mom warned that Laurel would break his heart. Wes took the check but later ripped it up and transferred the audio recording to a flash drive, which he hid in his apartment. When Laurel came by, she thought he was just upset with her because of Frank’s return to town. He insisted they were “good.” But Wes and Laurel later had a fight, in part due to the thoughts her mom planted in his head. The argument took place on the day he died. ("The Day Before He Died")
In the Mid-season finale Wes has died and is found in Annalise's burning house. As everyone begins to mourn, Nate informs Annalise that Wes had died before the fire meaning that he was most likely murdered. ("Who's Dead?") In We're Bad People, Laurel tells the Keating 5 that Wes is the biological father of her baby.
Murders Committed[]
- Sam Keating: Bashed him in the head with Annalise's golden trophy in order to save Rebecca. They had originally broken into his house to try and get evidence in order to implicate him in the death of Lila Stangard. Sam found them and lost it. He was thrown off of the landing and was presumed dead until he was found strangling Rebecca.("Kill Me, Kill Me, Kill Me")
Relationships[]
- Rebecca Sutter: Rebecca and Wes' relationship started off as rocky at first. Wes had seemed to like Rebecca, but Rebecca was not as open and warm towards him. After he tried to help her with her case, her attitude towards Wes changed and they eventually became a couple. Towards the end, Rebecca became more and more secretive. It got to the point where Wes couldn't trust her anymore. After it was revealed that Rebecca was constantly lying to him and his friends, Wes and his friends bound her. They brought her to Annalise' house where they questioned her. When Annalise agreed that Rebecca wouldn't be a problem, she went to release her, but she was already gone. It was thought at first that someone released her, but it was later revealed that Bonnie killed her.
- Meggy Travers: Dated for the whole summer but broke up because of Laurel.
- Laurel Castillo: Their relationship was mainly amicable at first until they kissed in Season 2 when Laurel was crying about Frank. Their liking for each other started while Laurel was still with Frank. It started out with a kiss while on a mission to find out more information about Wes’s mother. It then progressed from there, though Laurel remained with Frank until his departure. Wes then got together with Meggy Traver. Wes ended it with Meggy after he realized that he wanted to be with Laurel. Though their relationship was short, the two developed strong feelings for one another and Laurel eventually told Wes she loved him. While in a relationship, a drunk Laurel ended up sleeping with Frank again, though instantly regretting it and nothing further came from it as she never told Wes. Wes sadly dies in a fire. The day before that fire, Wes meets with Laurel's mom where she offers him $100,000 if he stops seeing Laurel. He refuses and rips up the check. In the same fire that killed Wes, Laurel was also hurt and taken to the hospital where she finds out she's pregnant. It was later revealed that Wes was the father to her son and she even named her son after him: Christopher Castillo. When Laurel finds out her mother was involved in Wes's death, she threatens to kill her because she hurt "the person she loves the most."
Trivia[]
- Enoch decided to drop his English accent when he first signed on to play the character of Wes Gibbins in the show because he wanted to "practice all the time". When he's on set in the US he speaks in an American accent continuously, and many people haven't heard him speak any differently.[4]
- During the filming of the "Pilot", it was recorded that it was one of the coldest winters on record. That resulted in some unexpected issues when it came to costuming. Alfred Enoch got in the habit of wearing multiple scarves to keep himself warm, even indoors. He asked that the scarf be made a part of his character's wardrobe, and it's been a steady feature of his costume in many episodes since then. Enoch just felt that it helped build Wes' sense of realism.[5]
- Wes hated superhero movies.
- Wes had a strong motherly relationship with Annalise Keating.
- He had a bad sense of direction.
- He'd never been to Europe.
- He was afraid of heights.
- He wanted a dog someday, but not from the breeder at the pound.
- He was allergic to peanuts.
- He was terrible at basketball.
- His favorite ice cream flavor was mint chocolate chip.
- He was the first of the Keating 5 to die.
- After his death it was revealed that Wes was expecting a child with Laurel Castillo.
- He was the first of the Keating 5 to kill
- He was the first of the Keating 5 to strike up a relationship with a client
- Wes was admitted to Middleton Health Center, shortly after the events of the Night at the Hapstall Mansion as he made a joke about killing himself.
- Wes was killed as he was about to tell the police all about the Night of the Bonfire and the Night at the Hapstall Mansion. With Wes implicating Annalise and the others, the shares of Antares Technologies would drastically drop due to the daughter of CEO Jorge Castillo, Laurel Castillo being implicated. With this information, Todd Denver called Jorge telling him about what Wes was about to do and Jorge sent Dominick to kill Wes before he could tell them anything. Sandrine Castillo also called Jorge, after Wes called her saying he and the others could be in trouble. This was all done as Antares was about to go public. ("Stay Strong, Mama", "The Day Before He Died")
- Regarding behind the scenes, Alfred Enoch's character was killed off because creator, Pete Nowalk wanted to change the theme of the show as he believed that the show had built up a reputation for focusing a lot of episodes on Annalise and Wes' relationship, and thus killed him off so that the show could focus on Annalise in general.[6]
- Wes initially believed that he was born in Haiti and moved to Ohio when he was 1.[7] Though seeing as Charles Mahoney is his father it can be assumed that he was really born and raised in Ohio.
