How to Get Away with Murder Wiki

"You could've ruined me, made me lose everything! So understand this- I will make sure that you are prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law for this crime. Oh, and that family of yours those-those people that just rejected you all those years ago? Well now they are finally gonna have a real reason to be ashamed of you 'cause you're gonna be in jail with the other inmates who are gonna love the hell outta your ass!"
—Marren to Pax after discovering he betrayed her

United States of America v. Trudeau was a insider trading charge brought against Marren Trudeau, CEO of Trudeau Securities. The FBI alleged she purchased stock in Edson Pharmaceuticals in advance of a favourable FDA ruling arising from insider knowledge. She hired Annalise Keating and told her not to investigate her staff and get the case thrown out in the preliminary hearing. Annalise successfully got the case thrown out before it went to trial but she and her team investigated the Trudeau Securities staff despite Marren's wishes, uncovering the real people behind the insider trading.

Case[]

Annalise instructs the Keating 5 to interview the 52 employees at Trudeau Securities until they found someone suspicious. Most of the interviews happen off screen but a 5 are shown. Connor interviewed Evan Blackstone, Laurel interviewed Jimmy Wordshaw, Wes interviewed Gene Wallace, Michaela interviewed Talia Lewis and Asher interviewed Carla Brookings. While Connor was conducting his interview he met Paxton Curtis. When Marren found out Annalise had her students investigate her staff she was unhappy, but Annalise thought it would be fine because someone would have found something. They all came up nothing. Connor mentioned wanting to follow a knew lead, however.

Connor goes back to the Trudeau offices to talk to Paxton. He asks a few questions and the two end up having sex and Connor places a bug in his office. After he leaves, Paxton receives a call from either Talia or Jimmy about the case. Paxton assures them that Annalise and the team still think it's Marren and he hooked up with one of Annalise's interns to make sure of it. Connor hears this on the bug and presents it to Annalise, and she meets with Marren with Frank and Connor the next day to break the news that Paxton was in on the trade and set her up. They also note that the person who called Paxton was within the building, proving that there were more employees involved in the trade.

That night Frank and the Keating 5 discuss who could have made the trade on Marren's computer. Connor says Paxton would have seen Marren leave to tell the other person to make the trade. Wes begins listing people who logged out of their computers around the time the trade on Marren's computer happened, notably Jimmy and Talia. Michaela and Laurel pitched in that they interviewed those people and they were suspicious. Asher then put it together that Jimmy must have distracted Marren on her smoke break whilst Talia made the trade and Paxton stood watch.

Annalise decides to hold depositions for Talia and Jimmy with prosecutor Caleb Abernathy. They start with Jimmy and accuse him of trading off Marren's computer after establishing that he took a smoke break around the time the trade took place. Annalise then lies and says Talia had ratted him out, causing him to confess. In Talia's deposition she used the same tactic. The pair are arrested.

Trivia[]
