Trent Stockton was the attorney who represented Nate Lahey when he was charged with the murder of Sam Keating. Trent is also mentioned by name in season 4, when Laurel is doing research into her father's company Antares, she discovers that Trent Stockton is donating to Todd Denver's campaign despite being dead. She has Oliver and Michaela use Tegan's account to uncover a cease and desist letter Trent received from Antares a week before he died. Laurel's theory is Trent was planning to whistleblow Antares and was murdered as a result.
It is unknown if the Trent Stockton who represented Nate in season 1 is meant to be the same Trent Stockton who worked for Antares and got killed in season 4. It is possible the writers used the same name by mistake, or the character is meant to be the same person but the writer's never pointed it out to the audience.
Biography[]
Trent Stockton represented Nate in early 2015, then Annalise convinces Nate to fire Trent and replace him with Eve Rothlo. Then at some point between February 2015 and early March 2016, Trent starts working for Antares and gets killed for attempting to whistleblow. Laurel then starts digging into Antares when she suspects her father being behind Wes' murder. She finds out about Trent and the circumstances surrounding his death.

Plot holes
- Laurel somehow misses in her research the fact that Trent represented Nate a year prior to his death. This links him to Annalise Keating.
- The FBI begin investigating Annalise and the Keating 4, and they either don't find out or think it's significant that the attorney who represented Nate against the murder of his girlfriend's husband got murdered. If the FBI found this out, it could have been suspicious as they may have had reason to believe Nate and/or Annalise committed the murder because Trent knew too much about Sam's death (and began working at Antares to take Annalise down/find out more information?)
