Murder, deception, fear and guilt are the ties that bind Middleton University Professor Annalise Keating (Viola Davis) to her long-time associates Frank Delfino, Bonnie Winterbottom and her students, the “Keating 5.” But as the group struggles to move on with their lives and focus on their clients, their past continues to haunt them. With Wallace Mahoney’s murder unsolved and Frank’s whereabouts still unknown, Annalise and her inner circle struggle to keep their secrets from getting exposed. Relationships will be fractured, lies will spin out of control, and a shocking, new mystery will upend their entire lives.

The series is created and executive produced by Pete Nowalk (“Scandal,” “Grey’s Anatomy”). Notes and Trivia[]

After the second-season finale, it was confirmed that every series regular was expected to return for the third season.^[18]
On March 18, 2016, it was announced that Conrad Ricamora who portrays Oliver Hampton had been upgraded to a series-regular for the third season following his initial guest appearances in the previous two seasons.^[19]
Production began on May 27, 2016, when showrunner Peter Nowalk announced, on Twitter, that the writing staff was in full swing mapping and writing the third season.^[20]
The table read for the premiere happened on July 6, 2016,^[21] and filming started a week later.^[22]
This is the final season to list Alfred Enoch (Wes Gibbins) as main cast. His small appearance in Season 4 was credited as guest starring. This is the second main cast departure in the series, the first being Katie Findlay in Season 1.
It is worth noting that of all the season promo pictures this is the only season in which Annalise is smiling.
This season focuses more on the relationships of the characters rather than the plot itself. This is because Peter Nowalk wanted to change the nature of the show and move the focus from Wes and Annalise's relationship. This is also why Wes was killed off.^[23]
