I'm back here to inform you of some great news – ABC is partnering with Fandom to make How to Get Away with Murder Wiki an Official Wiki Community! This means that ABC is officially endorsing the wiki as the best place to find encyclopedic information about the show.
A few other wikis became Official Wiki Communities for television last year, some of which are other ABC shows, and now this wiki can become a part of that. This won’t change anything about how you run your wiki - the community will always be in charge, ABC and Fandom aren’t here to take over. That’s a reflection of the hard work you and other editors have put into the wiki, so congratulations!
We’d love to partner with you moving forward. We have some ideas for what we can do next to get this new Official Wiki status on the wiki, but first, it would be good to know if you have any questions. I've already introduced myself some time ago, as I was assigned here to help out, but just in case – I'm Lucas (Playsonic2), a Wiki Manager from Fandom and I look forward to hearing back from you on this!
I'm glad to hear that you're excited about the news! It's definitely nice to see all that hard work be appreciated, especially now that we are gearing up for the final episodes of the show.
The best way to get us started on this is to show you the wiki logo with the official wiki badge. This is the same badge included in all the official wikis (such as Emergence and Stumptown):
I moved the "How to Get Away with" text two or three pixels upward so as to fit the badge without it being too close to the text. If you're happy with this version, it can already be added as the wordmark - however, if you think it needs more modifications, we can always look into it.
Beyond that, it would be good if we could talk about some areas of the wiki's main page. This is because what goes there can have a direct impact over how wikis are perceived by Google and other search engines, which is important for official partnerships. But we can get into more of this once you've checked the logo :)
For the main page, in all official communities we have had to remove the image slider, and the footer area (affiliations and other wiki links). We hate to alter it, as you've spent time building it already, but as it's "the face" of the official partnership, there is specific reasoning behind these changes:
The slider is no longer the best practice because images are too big (pushing the real content below), and on a timed loop, which is not the greatest for accessibility.
Our suggestion to modify this would be something similar to Emergence Wiki - there, we chose to go with a text above the characters instead of having a slider, as the content gets read by search engines directly. Perhaps the "About" section that describes How to Get Away with Murder could replace it?
For the affiliations, we wonder if we could reduce their impact on the main page, as there are other show logos in there.
One option could be to transfer them into a separate page. The A Million Little Things Wiki (also official) moved them into an Affiliates page that looks nice. We can definitely discuss other options, though, depending on your thoughts on this.
The global footer templates (for ABC and Drama wikis) are like the slider, too big and no longer the greatest option for user experience, as there are too many links together. Fandom may improve these in future, but at the moment they're actually not the best. :(
Apologies for this wall of text - but those are the only major areas where there is more scrutiny on. The design itself (colors, etc.) looks really great, and there's plenty of content on it, which is awesome. If you have any questions about some of these changes, or want to consider other alternatives, I'm happy to discuss anything.
Just wondering if you had a chance to check the above. If you want, I could try my hand at doing some of the changes in another page as a test, so we can have a look at it... before editing anything on the actual main page of course.
I've been really busy recently with university assignments so i've not had much spare time to work on the wiki to be honest. If you're up for creating a test page then go for it. The help would be appreciated.
(I understand what you mean, and can definitely relate. Doing my fair share of assignments myself!)
But getting back to the Main Page, I started doing a test, which you can see in User:Playsonic2/Test. I made the changes mentioned above, and also played around with adding a new red box on the right column just to see how it looked like.
If you could have a look and give any feedback, that would be great - we can discuss any parts of it, and I can make adjustments as needed.
I'm glad you like it, I will be transferring those changes over to the actual Main Page then. I will also transfer the affiliates into a separate page so as to not lose that information, of course.
Other than that - with regards to content, the wiki looks fairly complete to me, but are there any specific areas you would like assistance with updating? Fandom has Content Team Members available that could be a big help for collaborating if needed. I'm happy to discuss anything related with this if you have any thoughts/goals in mind.
I'm going around wikis to share a new blog post from Fandom that includes some context on the Unified Community Platform (UCP for short) and details on how the MediaWiki upgrade and feature changes will be happening in the next few months.
With the Season 6 premiere coming up this week, I was passing by to check if you need anything from me or Fandom Staff ahead of the big increase in visitors you are sure to get. (I can't wait to watch it myself.)
I think the wiki looks great, it's clear you've worked hard on editing and things look super prepared, and also Special:Analytics should be pretty helpful along the season. But if you have any other concerns about things, feel free to reach out!
Heya! I hope all is well here. I'm bringing you more news from Fandom, this time about the new Analytics Admin Dashboard feature that was introduced yesterday, giving admins access to interesting wiki data. You can now understand better how the wiki is doing and may plan certain things/make decisions based on what you can see there.
The page Help:Analytics dashboard was also made available if you have any questions about the feature. But please ask me if you have any other questions - I’m in direct contact with staff and would be able to find out from them.
Feel free to spread the word with your fellow admin. I hope this is useful. (Some of the data can be surprising, for example "Vivian maddox" is one of the most searched terms, more than most main characters right now... for some reason!)
Hey, I'm passing by to share yet another blog (just making sure these don't go unseen, particularly when they're relevant to editors such as you.)
This one is about Fandom's projects for Editor Rewards. You can find all the information in the blog, so not much to add on my part - feel free to check it if you wish, and comment if you have any questions/feedback.
Hi NightLite, my name is Antonio and I am a Community Manager of the TV/Movies vertical for Fandom. I wanted to introduce myself and see if you need anything, have any problems, or would like to share any ideas you have. As you may already know, our Community Org is changing. From now on our team will focus even more on building closer relationships with the communities, admins, and users.
We are here to support you and help make this community thrive. If you need anything, feel free to contact me or our Wiki Manager directly at any time. And just so you know, Wiki Managers might be more available than me on weekends.
I will be here together to Playsonic2 -Wiki Manager- for anything you need.
Please let me know if you have any questions and I hope to hear back from you soon! :)
Heya! Just here to let you know that Fandom now has an official Discord server and lots of editors are joining. In this blog post at Community Central you can find more information, as well as a server invite link if you wish to join us. There are many editors there, as well as staff members, and a variety of channels. Cheers!
I noticed the ABC Channel Wiki is part of your affiliates. We're going to merge both wiki's and I was wondering if you could update the link to ABC.fandom.com. We've added your wordmark and link to the affiliates page, here.
Hi! My name is Playsonic2, and I’m the Fandom Wiki Manager for How to Get Away with Murder Wiki. I'm just passing by to introduce myself :)
As a Wiki Manager my goal is to be around, available to help the community and also be a liaison to full-time Fandom staff. If you ever have a question or issue relating to the wiki, editing, etc., please feel free to contact me on my message wall.
Hey, hope everything is well around here. Just passing by to share a staff blog post about an upcoming MediaWiki upgrade. You may have seen it promoted already, but I'll leave it here just in case, as it's quite big news for communities. Cheers!
I don't appreciate you constantly changing my edits as your word isn't final and the popular opinion is that Gabriel might be Bonnie's biological son.
There is nothing to validate your claims of her son being caucasion and not of mixed race.
Bonnie was raped by several men some of whom could have been african-american. Just because bonnie herself is white doesn't mean her child is fully caucasian and not of mixed race which Gabriel clearly identifies as.
I understand that this piece of information may have been easily missed but it clearly states 'CAU' which stands for 'caucasian'.
Regardless of this, this wiki doesn’t post information based on conjecture and it hasn’t been specifically stated that Gabriel is Bonnie's son. And with this information, it rules out Gabriel as the candidate, or at least for now.
